This article walks you through the practical side of the Enrich Layer trial - how your credits work, what limits to expect, and what happens when credits run out or you're ready to upgrade.
For a full breakdown of what's included and what's not, see What's Included in the Free Trial?
How Many Credits Do You Get?
You receive either 100 credits (if you signed up with a personal email like Gmail or Yahoo) or 200 credits (if you signed up with a work or business email). These credits are available immediately after signup and can be used across any supported API endpoint.
Keep in mind that different endpoints and parameters consume different amounts of credits per request. You can view the exact credit cost of each call in your API Logs.
Rate Limits During the Trial
Trial accounts are limited to 2 requests per minute. This is significantly lower than the standard limit of 300 requests per minute on paid plans.
If you're seeing HTTP 429 errors during testing, this is the likely cause - it's expected behavior, not a bug. Your rate limit increases as soon as you make your first credit top-up or upgrade to a paid plan.
What Happens When Your Credits Run Out?
Once your trial credits are exhausted, API access will be paused and requests will no longer return data. Your account, API key, and dashboard history all remain intact - nothing is deleted.
You will not be automatically charged. To resume API access, you'll need to upgrade to a paid plan or top up your credits.
How to Upgrade to a Paid Plan
When you're ready to move beyond the trial:
Log in to your Enrich Layer dashboard.
Navigate to Billing in the left-hand menu.
Select a plan that fits your usage needs.
Enter your payment details and confirm.
Your new credit allocation is available immediately after upgrading, and your existing API key continues to work without any changes to your integration.
For a comparison of available plans, see Enrich Layer Plans: What's Available and How They Work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I getting a 429 error? Trial accounts are rate limited to 2 requests per minute. This is expected and not a bug - upgrading to a paid plan removes this restriction.
What happens to my API key after the trial ends? Your API key remains valid. Once you upgrade, it will continue to work without any changes needed in your integration.
Where can I track my credit usage? Go to your API Logs to see the credit cost of every request, or check the Billing section of your dashboard for your remaining balance.
